Rolls-Royce secures £1.3bn deal

20 June 2011 Last updated at 17:33 GMT Rolls-Royce has won a ?1.3bn deal to supply engines for 27 Airbus 350 long-haul planes bought by Brazil's TAM Airlines.

The contract includes engine maintenance work over a 12-year period.

The company also announced ?190m-worth of new business from Bahrain's Gulf Air and China Southern Airlines.

But Richard Hedges of Rolls-Royce would not confirm at this stage whether the Trent XWB engines would be manufactured in Derby.

He said: "We have a supply chain that involves suppliers from some 70 different companies around the world.

"But Derby is very much the centre of excellence for the development and production of our civil turbofan engines such as the Trent XWB."
